PKM Update June 30th

Kochani

Since this a holiday weekend, PKM will NOT hold dance practice this Friday, July 1.

The break will be welcome by all as we recuperate from last weekend's activities. On Friday we held our dance practice, and welcomed new members, Kathryn and Veronica. We hope you have fun dancing and spending time with PKM:)

On Saturday we hosted members of the PAFDC group from New York. First we took them to the mecca of Philly cheesesteaks, Pat's in South Philly. They seemed to really enjoy that menu offering. Afterwards, we exposed them to some of the cultural wonders of Philly located along the Ben Franklin Parkway, with a final stop at the Art Museum.

At 7PM we gathered with the rest of PKM for a joint dance practice at St. Adalberts gym for a energetic, and fun filled evening. Together, we danced their suites and tought them our Wielkopolska. See photo. The evening ended with a performance at a wedding in Bensalem. Thanks to all that shared the evening with us.

Sunday was the most challenging yet most fun day of the weekend. Of course I am referring to the Noc Swietojanska Picnic at Polish Home. The mastermind of the event, Andrew Wisniewski, did most of the preparations for the event; installing outdoor lights in the BBQ area, clearing out and "rennovating" the summer bar, getting the menu ready and preparing the program. The day of the picnic, it was a team effort that made the event a success. Members of Polish Home's Board of Directors swiftly set up and ran the bar, Pawel, Krzysiu and Edek ran the grill , putting the finishing touches on their tasty bigos (prepared by Ania and Sylwia) that morning. Debbie, Dorothy, Ela and Wojtek manned the admissions and deserts tables, while our PAFDC guests set up all the decorations, got the outdoor tables covered and generally "helped out". The entertainment part of the Program was well received. It included performances by PKM, PAFDC and the Chorus. The traditional "wianki" were laid on the "stream" and young and old alike had fun looking for the "forbidden fern". The children mostly enjoyed the "babka" throwing contest, as the hurled water balloons down the driveway. And Pani Kolodziej read palms and generally entertained the guests as our resident "wrozka".

Thanks to all those mentioned and the ones omitted as I know everyone did all they could to support the cause which is to make sure our Polish Home stays a vibrant part of our Polish community. See photo.

Next weekend we have a busy schedule as well. We will begin the evening with a performance in center city Philly. Afterwards we will gather for dance practice as there is much to prepare for the Czestochowa show.

On Saturday, July 9, we will travel to the Poconos for some white water rafting. More details on that event in my next week's email.
